Parenting in a Digital Age
Online bullying is real, and it can
deeply affect your child’s identity and confidence.
Studies show that 1 in 3 students
experience cyberbullying, and those who are bullied are more likely to
struggle with anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. With kids spending more
time online than ever before, being proactive is not optional, it is essential.
Stay Aware
Know what platforms your child uses
and what they are experiencing.
Awareness is protection.
Follow their accounts when
appropriate. Ask questions. Stay engaged.
You do not need to control everything,
but you do need to stay connected.
Keep Communication
Open
Make sure your child feels safe
telling you anything without fear of overreaction.
If they think you will panic or take
everything away, they may stay silent.
Create a space where they can be
honest, and where you respond with wisdom, not fear.
Teach Identity in
Christ
Bullying attacks identity. The
solution is helping your child know who they are in God.
When their identity is rooted in
Christ, the opinions of others lose their power.
Remind them:
- They are loved
- They are chosen
- They are created with purpose
Take Action When
Needed
Report, block, and involve school
authorities if necessary.
Document what is happening. Set
boundaries online.
Protection is part of parenting, and
taking action shows your child they are not alone.
Remind Them of Truth
People’s opinions do not define them,
God’s Word does.
Everything you need including peace,
strength, joy, and victory flows from the promises of God. But to access them,
you must know them.
Pray and declare Isaiah 54:7 over your child.
"No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which
rises against you in judgment you shall condemn."
Isaiah 54:17
